The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department is responsible for serving over 950,000 residents over 840 square miles.
JFRD deploys over 1,900 personnel throughout the county with access to over 70 fire stations, 65 engine companies, 65 Emergency Ambulance Services and 15 ladder trucks.

From Jacksonville’s first firefighting efforts around 1850 to the present enhancements, JFRD has continually improved its services to provide the best possible protection for the community.
JFRD has achieved many notable milestones over the years; from establishing the nation’s first and largest Advanced Life Support (ALS) service, to creating the first hazardous materials teams in 1977, to becoming the first fire department to successfully extinguish a fully involved petroleum tank fire.
