Smoke Detector Program
Smoke detectors help save lives by warning residents of a fire in time to escape. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department will provide and install a free smoke detector for any qualifying Jacksonville resident living in a single-family or two-family residence. The department also will install replacement batteries in existing smoke detectors at no charge.
For a free smoke detector or to arrange to have the batteries in an existing device replaced, call 904-630-CITY (2489). Or click here.
It should be re-emphasized that not everyone will be eligible or meet the criteria for the service, due to the limited resources available. Exclusionary examples include businesses, contractors and rental properties.
Businesses, organizations or individuals who want to help prevent residential fire deaths through increased use of smoke detectors can contribute to the Mayor's Home Fire Safety Program. Call 904-255-3286 for more information.
Safe Kids of Northeast Florida / Wolfson Children's Hospital is a donating partner to this program.
